Pop music has to be the most popular genre around the world, due to its catchy and upbeat sound, as well as its appeal to mainstream audiences. In recent years the pop music culture has also integrated itself in several Asian countries, primarily China, Korea and Japan. The Japanese in particular have embraced this genre, and have, in turn, added their own unique touch to make it even more accessible to the local population. Widely referred to as J-Pop, this genre has led to the creation of several more sub-genres that combine different types of music with the lyrics and sound associated with pop music.
The lights turn on
One of the most popular J-Pop bands over the last few years has to be Babymetal. Their innovative idea to mix pop music with heavy metal music has taken their country by storm. That has helped them build a large fan base that has slowly been spreading all across the globe, with the US the newest country to jump up on the bandwagon.
Their fame stems from not only their ability to break all stereotypes about the genre of metal, but also because of the ‘cute’ factor associated with the band members. Their genre has been known as ‘Kawaii Metal’ in Japan, meaning Cute Metal, and this has been their biggest selling point to date. If you want to catch this fascinating band in concert as well, then get your Babymetal tickets and enjoy their performance, live at an arena near you.
The stage is set
Babymetal consists of three main vocalists named Suzuka Nakamoto, Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi, who have been given the nicknames Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal respectively. Suzuka is the leader of the group as well as its lead singer. She is also the oldest of the three. She has been involved in the music industry for almost a decade and was a member of two other bands before finding fame with Babymetal. She first came to prominence when she took part in Amuse, Inc Talent Agency’s ‘Star Kids Audition‘ and managed to come in second place.
In 2008, her new agency decided to add her to the lineup of a girl’s group called Karen Girls, and she stayed with them over the next year, before going on to form another group, called “Sakura Gakuin” in 2010. This was an idol group and each member went on to form smaller sub-groups, each focused on a particular genre. Suzuka chose to form Babymetal and soon her agency added Mizuno and Kikuchi to the band as well.
Mizuno and Kikuchi both joined Sakura Gakuin at the age of eleven, with the latter having been with the agency since she had come in second place at the Ciao Girl Audition 2007, at the age of just eight years. They initially joined a group called the Twinklestars, under the tutelage of the Baton Club, and it was only in 2010 that they helped Suzuka form Babymetal.
