Career Foundation

The Chester based Denise White loved playing the piano when she was 8 years old. The young girl learned hymns and started studying classical and jazz music before her aunt invited her to sing at a Catholic church. This was followed by a string of performances in choirs including the AME Church and Country Day of the Sacred Heart high school in Pennsylvania. Her performances honed her vocal skills and matured her irrevocable love for music. At the Spelman College, Atlanta, where she studied piano and later philosophy, White struck a partnership with a vocal major Maia Wilson. Under the title DaisyRew, the two ladies sang gospel and R&B in Africa as well as local churches and cafes. During the years, Wilson became more active on Broadway and soon left for New York. The fortunate White met guitarist, songwriter and producer Dana Johnson and the pair began recording songs that earned raving receptions in Japan. White soon adopted the name Avery Sunshine and began her career as a professional R&B singer.

Commercial Performances and Debut Release

Sunshine lent her voice to “The Fighting Temptations” soundtrack and worked as a keyboard artist in Tyler Perry’s play “Meet The Browns in 2005”. The blessed musician was selected to head the choral direction of theatre play “Dreamgirls” in 2007, which was part of the performances at the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. Sunshine rose to prominence after she made four performances at President Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremonies followed by her daily concerts at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Sunshine’s self-titled debut studio album was officially released in 2010 on the BigShine label. The album, a refreshing and unique blend of soul and R&B, focuses on Sunshine’s own journey from a choir singer to an R&B star. The album’s songs shed light on Sunshine’s personal experiences and her struggle as a single mother. “In the album I sing about my life”, remarks Sunshine, whose songs have always been motivational and optimistic. The artist also performed in Douglas Tappin’s musical “I Dream” and constantly toured the globe with fellow artists Ledisi and B.B. King during 2011 and 2013.
