A year later, the four-piece released its debut album by the name of, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet in 2000. Even though this album was released it 2000, it had been recorded earlier when the band members were no more than eighteen years old. A couple of years later, the inclusion of Synyster Gates in the band led to the recording of some of the major tracks, which ultimately resulted in the re-release of the album in 2002. This worked out well for the band as it helped them gain much needed and much wider recognition.

This wider exposure won Avenged Sevenfold many a great deals both with the recording companies as well as the live touring. During the same year, the band got a chance to play on the Take Action Tour. This great opportunity also brought along the honor of playing with bands like Mushroomhead and Shadows Fall, which helped the band learn a great deal. During the fall of 2003, the quartet discovered Johnny Christ, the bassist who remains an integral part of the band to date. Some eleven years after the foundation of the band and several very successful albums, the band is still doing great with both its studio recordings as well as live shows. The aggressive mix of metal core and pop-punk in their sound lassos fans from far and wide.
