Anthrax is an awesome thrash metal band that was formed back in 1981 in America's greatest city, New York City. This incredible band was formed during the golden eighties by not one but two guitarists, Danny Lilker and Scott Ian. From then on, it was only uphill, a journey that launched this band into metal stardom. This sensational met outfit has release ten different studio albums, an EP alongside the rap sensation Public Enemy and twenty hit singles over the course of their career. This band, alongside Testament, was one of the most popular eighties thrash metal bands and is regarded as one of the best four bands in this scene, one of the Big Four alongside Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth. In fact, Anthrax was one of the first thrash metal bands to have been signed onto a major record label.
Anthrax was signed onto the record label, Island Records, in a couple of years of their starting to play live music. This Big Four band has a lineup that includes Scott Ian as the guitarist and rhythm guitarist, Charlie Benante on drums and playing the percussion, Joey Belladonna as the lead vocalist, Frank Bello as the bassist and Rob Caggiano as a guitarist. Anthrax has release ten albums over the course of many years; this includes 1984’s Fistful of Metal, 1985’s Spreading the Disease, 1987’s Among the Living, 1988’s State of Euphoria, 1990’s Persistence of Time, 1993’s Sound of White Noise, 1995’s Stomp 442, 1998’s Volume 8: The Threat Is Real, 2003’s We've Come for You All and the band’s latest release, 2011’s Worship Music.
Testament, another iconic thrash metal band to have come out of the eighties, is also a band widely regarded as one of the most popular bands of the eighties thrash metal scene, one of the big bands alongside Anthrax. Since its inception back in 1983, this band has been playing awesome live music and releasing it, resulting in a career just a couple of years short of thirty today. Testament has released around nine albums in studio, four live albums, six different compilations and six hit singles. This amazing band was also one of the first thrash metal bands to have been signed onto a major record label when Testament was signed onto Atlantic Records back in 1986, hardly a year after Anthrax.
From the onwards, Testament rode the waves of popularity in the thrash metal scene and the wider metal scene. The band’s first album was The Legacy which was released in 1987. After this album, Testament followed it up with an album each year until 1990; The New Order in 1988, Practice What You Preach in 1989 and Souls of Black in 1990. This band’s next album was released in 1992 and was titled as The Ritual; this album ranked high on the Billboard 200 charts, a monumental achievement for a thrash metal band. Since then, three of its albums have also ranked high in the UK charts as well as two more in Germany.
