Anthony Jeselnik is known for his bitter and dark sense of humor that intelligently touches upon controversial topics. He is unique and his brand of humor is something that should not be missed!
About Anthony Jeselnik
Anthony Jeselnik was born in 1978 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was raised in Upper St. Clair. He was interested in comedy from a young age and had a noted interest in making people laugh. Even in elementary school, he is known to have interrupted his class several times to tell jokes.
One of the earliest defining moments for the comedian in the making came during his school days. A classmate of his was moving to a town that was not regarded well, with Jeselnik making a sarcastic remark, “Oh, well, send us a postcard.” Even the teacher conducting the class found it hilarious and burst out laughing. Talking about this particular moment, Jeselnik said, “if you are smart enough that adults get it, you can get away with anything”.
Early Inspirations and Comedy Career
After realizing his knack for comedy, Anthony Jeselnik began watching iconic comedy shows. His early inspirations include the likes of Saturday Night Live, Mr. Show and The Ben Stiller Show.
Soon after finishing college, with an English Literature major and a business minor from Tulane University, Anthony Jeselnik moved to Los Angeles and tried his hand at stand-up comedy. His first attempt did not go as well as he had planned. He did an impression of his father getting stung by wasps. Unfortunately for him, by the end of the skit, no one laughed. Because of this bad experience, Jeselnik swore that he would not do physical comedy ever again.
But as fate would have it, Jeselnik was destined to be a great comedian. After getting a job working as an accountant for Deadwood, Jeselnik started performing at open-mic nights. He was further inspired by the works of Mitch Hedberg, Sarah Silverman, Steven Wright and Dennis Miller. It was two years into his comedy career, that Anthony Jeselnik had a true ‘light bulb moment.’
He wrote a bizarre joke with a dark angle on it – and the response from the audience was highly encouraging. The joke was called “My Girlfriend Loves to Eat Chocolate” and also it went on to be featured on Shakespeare later on. Soon, Jeselnik found his niche in the comedy world and began working on his jokes. He started working at Comedy Cellar, a place where they would let him go home early so that he could get some sleep before going to work in the morning. At the Comedy Cellar, Jeselnik was further inspired by several comedians, such as Colin Quinn, Bobby Kelly, Keith Robinson and Jim Norton.
Breakthrough in Comedy
Anthony Jeselnik got his breakthrough in 2009 when his Comedy Central Presents premiered and he was named one of the breakout comedians of the network. In the same year, he got hired as one of the writers for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Even though he enjoyed working here quite a lot, he could not truly express his sense of humor due to its noted dark side.
In 2010, the comedian began writing for the famous Comedy Central Roasts, which he calls the ‘Super Bowl of Comedy.’ Noticing his talents, the producers at Comedy Central offered him a chance to perform a roast. Jeselnik performed a Donald Trump roast, in what would be the breakthrough moment in his career. He went on to perform roasts of Roseanne Barr and Charlie Sheen for the network.
Soon, Jeselnik got to host his own Comedy Central series called The Jeselnik Offensive.
In 2015, he released his album Thoughts and Prayers. His previous albums, such as Shakespeare and Caligula have both been hailed as masterpieces. So you can expect Thoughts and Prayers to be equally good as well. But you are going to have to get these Anthony Jeselnik tickets to find out for yourself! It is going to be an event filled with endless joy and merriment, so you wouldn’t want to miss out!
