As a teenager Peterson learned to play the piano and took lessons for some time but soon gave it up to learn the guitar instead. Inspiration came to him not from some veteran musician, but actually from a friend who was playing the instrument to impress a girl. Throughout his high school, Andrew Peterson continued to play music and joined a touring company, World Showcase. The company failed to sustain and soon was filed for bankruptcy. Disappointed, the artist returned to his hometown and joined Florida Christian College. His experiences in life compelled him to deepen his relationship with God and expressed his feelings on paper in the form of songs. This marked the start of his career, not only as a musician but also a songwriter. Using his writings, Peter along with his wife released an independent album ‘Walk’ in the late nineties. Artists like Derek Webb came across his website and signed a contract with him to open for his band, Caedmon’s Call. This was followed by a live tour, which gave Andrew Peterson the initial public exposure.
The artist’s first full length album, ‘Carried Away’ was released in 2000, and featuring songs like Nothing to Say, was ranked among the CCM Magazine’s List of Top Ten Albums. Encouraged by the response, Peterson came up with his second release, ‘Clear to Venus’ just after a year and then following the pattern of having a year gap, produced a total of 13 studio albums in over two decades. The latest one, ‘Light for the Lost Boy’ was released in 2012 and since then, Peterson has focused his efforts on touring.
