Alton’s was born in California and spent his childhood as part of the Boy Scouts of America. However, from an early age he enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with his grandmother and mother, who were the first people to discover and polish his culinary talent. Alton laughs about how he utilized this special ability to get dates with popular girls in college. After graduating from University of Georgia, Alton Brown followed his father’s footsteps and entered the media industry. He worked as a video director and cinematographer for almost a decade producing interesting music videos and films. During that period, he spent all his free time watching various cooking shows on TV which he thought were poor in content and quality.
Convinced that his passion for cooking and his already gained media experience can be combined together to create a distinct cooking show, he created Good Eats which aired on The Food Network. Before the show began, he took formal training in culinary arts at the New England Culinary Institute. Good Eats became a one-of-a-kind cooking show. It was an interesting amalgamation of science of cooking sprinkled with wisdom and wit, pop culture and history.
