This three-member band has made its presence felt on the music scene over the past few years and is simply loved by fans as well as the critics. Till date they have released eight successful studio albums, two compilation albums and fifteen singles. Their music has reformed and improved in the last few years and have developed a unique music style of their own. The band was founded in 1996 in McHenry Illinois by three musician friends namely Matt Skiba (avocals and lead guitar), Glenn Porter (vocals and drums) and Rob Doran (vocals and bass). Skiba is the only founder member who is left with Alkaline Trio and apart from him the current line-up consists of Dan Andriano (lead vocals and bass) and Derek Grant (backing vocals and drums). In 1997 and 1998, the band released two EP albums Sundials and For Your Lungs Only and it was these two albums that made the band noticed in the Midwestern America and their fan-ship started to grow.
Alkaline Trio's first album was Goddamnit released in 1998 followed in 2000 by Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, these two albums were not very successful and failed to chart. The year of 2001 saw Alkaline Trio coming in the limelight as their third album was a good effort and it jumped to #14 on US Top Heat Seekers and #9 on US Independent Charts. Their popularity increased even more with the release of Good Mourning as this was their first album ever to reach the top slot on Independent Charts, #20 on US Billboard 200 and first album to chart in UK at #32. In 2005 and 2008, the band churned out two more fine albums namely Crimson and Agony & Irony respectively, the later marked their debut on US Rock charts at #5. Their highest charting single till date is also from this album called “Help Me” and this landed on #14 on US Modern Rock Charts.
Their seventh album This Addiction was released in 2010 under the label of Heart & Skull/ Epitaph Records and this album till date is considered as their best effort. This album was a stunner for critics and fans and raced to #1 spot on US Alternative, US Rock and US Independent Charts and was at #8 on Digital and #11 on US Billboard 200 and this is in fact the highest charted position of Alkaline Trio on Billboard. This album also charted at #51 on UK charts. Alkaline Trio has just released another superb album in 2011 under the same recording label and it is getting great reviews from listeners. The album includes a cover single “I held Her in My Arms” originally performed by Violent Femmes and two new songs “I Remember a Rooftop” and “Olde English 800”.
Alkaline Trio is a part of a huge punk rock band circle which includes famous bands like The Suicide Machines, The Lawrence Arms, The Broadways, Slapstick, Smoking Popes, Tuesday and The Honor System.
