Alien Ant Farm ’s first EP was released in 1998 and titled Love Songs. In 1999, their first album came out and was labeled Greatest Hits. It won the LA Music Awards’ Best Independent Album award and was then signed onto DreamWorks SKG after they impressed famous rock and metal band, Papa Roach. In 2000, they released their first ever studio recorded album, Anthology, via the label. In 2001, they rose to fame with the release of a cover of a Michael Jackson song, Smooth Criminal. It ranked first on the US Modern Rock charts, the Australian music charts and the New Zealand music charts. It also ranked third on the UK Singles chart. A tribute to Michael Jackson and his music, in their own style, it received a lot of acclaim.
Alien Ant Farm’s Michael Jackson cover was featured in American Pie 2 and WWE Tough Enough. Their next single, titled Movies, ranked in the top five of the UK Singles chart. By then, their debut major label album had been certified platinum after selling more than a million copies. In 2002, one of their songs, Bug Bytes, was part of the soundtrack of the first Spider-Man movie. The same year, they went on a European tour, playing in countries such as Spain. In 2003, they released the album Truant, produced by Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots.
One of the album’s singles, Glow, became massively popular, particularly on radio, as well as charting in New Zealand. They followed it up with a tour in support of the album. In 2004, they recorded a song for the video game of The Punisher. In 2005, they released an album titled 3rd Draft, with many of their songs used in video games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, ATV Offroad Fury 2, Shaun Palmer’s Pro Snowboarder and Madden NFL 2004. In 2006, they released the album Up in the Attic. Later that year, they performed on Attack of the Show on G4 and released three music videos.
In 2009, they released their first live album, based on their tour of Germany. Later that year, they played at the Sonisphere Festival and then joined the Vans Warped Tour where they played in tribute to Michael Jackson. They also released a number of live videos of their songs and kicked off the ANTicipation Tour in 2011. They were also part of the Michel Forever Tribute Concert, held in Cardiff, Wales.
After their immensely popular tour, they began working on a new album at the Groovemaster Studios, located in Chicago city.
