Entry Into Music Scene
Vincent Damon Furnier took on the name Alice Cooper when he made his way into the entertainment industry back in 1963. Born in Detroit, Alice developed a keen eye for music and at the mere age of 16 formed a band named ‘The Spiders’. Initially singing covers of artists such as The Beatles, the Doors, the Who and the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper released his debut single, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ via Mascot Records in 1967.
From ‘The Spiders’ to ‘Alice Cooper’
It was in 1968 that ‘The Spiders’ became ‘Alice Cooper’ and with this Vincent also adopted the band’s name as his own. Over the years, the singer has released 7 studio albums with the band, 19 more as a solo artist, 21 compilation records, 11 live albums and 12 video records. With over 50 million in album sales (as of 2013), Alice has worked with record label giants such as MCA, Atlantic and Warner Bros. 6 of his studio releases have received platinum certifications while 3 other have reached gold level sales.
