Meet Alessia Cara – A Rising Star With Lush & Soulful Vocals
Latest addition in the pop, R&B music scene, Alessia Cara has quickly established herself as a promising artist. The talent of the 19-year old crooner belies her age and she has impressed everyone – critics, peers and fans with her musical depth. Just like Justin Bieber, her YouTube covers of other musicians’ hits led her to the doorstep of EP Entertainment and Def Jam Records.
Hailing from Brampton, Ontario, Cara’s breakthrough number “Here,” went viral within the first week of release and earned her acclaim from the industry and listeners. An anthem for the introverts, “Here” hoists a flag for the anti-socials and she has gotten the attention of both the uncertain and cool kids. She also picked up a few admirers on the way including the pop diva Taylor Swift, who heard Cara’s acoustic version of the song “Bad Blood”. Swift took to Twitter to praise the teenager and even included her single “I’m Yours” on her handwritten playlist “New Songs That Will Make Your Life More Awesome (I Promise)”. During her Halloween performance in Tampa as part of her 1989 Tour, Taylor Swift invited Alessia Cara as a guest artist and both showed off their vocal chops by performing “Here” live.
Alessia Cara’s Journey To Become The Next Big Thing
Singing is something that Alessia Cara has been doing for a long time. Her parents introduced her to the legends – Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Elvis Presley, but it wasn’t until she heard Amy Winehouse that she actually fell in love with music. She learned to play the guitar at the age of 10 and started playing for audience when she was in high school. Cara eventually started posting her videos on YouTube and the stripped-down version of “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood caught the attention of a music executive’s daughter. She showed it to her father – Tony Perez, founder of EP Entertainment. The rest is history.
Impressed with Cara’s emotional voice, he gave her an opportunity to write and record songs, and she spent most of her senior year recording demos. After graduating high school she signed with Def Jam label and within a year released the hit single “Here”. Streamed over a million times, listeners were able to connect with the song and the powerful outsider’s anthem climbed the music charts. It peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and on the year-end charts holds the 94th spot. With Alessia Cara tickets in hand you can listen to the live version of the critically and commercially successful track.
“Know-It-All” Makes Alessia Cara The Brightest Star In Pop/R&B Scene
Alessia Cara made it big with her debut album and it showcased her vocal prowess and musical depth. Featuring an eclectic song list, she melted countless hearts with the first love themed single “I’m Yours” and “Wild Things” that is a celebration of youth. The latter is more of a straight up pop number, featuring percussive, fast-paced tune. Cara has collaborated with Sebastian Kole on the single “Stone”, a light acoustic number and then there is “Overdose”, an engaging song about an unsteady relationship. “Scars To Your Beautiful” is a wonderful single both musically and lyrically, focusing on the women in the industry.
After her strong debut, incredible live performances and now a headlining tour, it’s safe to say that Alessia has lived up to the hype surrounding her for the past year. She will definitely get bigger and better and it will be exciting to watch her talent grow.
