10 Years is a four member band that belongs to Knoxville, Tennessee. It was founded in 1999 initially by five musician friends namely singer Mike Underdown, guitarist Ryan Johnson, bassist Lewis Cosby, drummer Brian Vodinh and guitarist Matt Wantland. Since then the band has undergone some lineup changes Wantland and Underdown departed and Jesse Hasek joined as lead singer. Two other musicians namely guitarist Chad and bassist Jeanne Sagan join the band on live performances and tours. They released the debut album named Into the Half Moon as an independent effort. Releasing the album independently was in fact a mistake as the band failed to get attention of the major recording labels.
They started working on their second album after the departure of Underdown, as he went on to pursue a career as an actor and also made his own band. They were noticed by recording giant Universal Records and landed a contract for their next album. Jesse Hasek was singing in a local band at that time and he was asked to join 10 Years as the lead singer in 2002. With Hasek the group self-released their next album that was titled Killing All That Holds You in 2004. This was the first major release by 10 Years but failed to chart.
They jumped onto the major alternative metal music scene with their third album The Autumn Effect that was available in music stores in 2005. This album was the first one to enter US Billboard at #72. "Wasteland" was a single from the album that became an instant hit with music lovers and raced to #1 position on US Alternative Songs and #2 on US Mainstream Rock Tracks. This single till date remains the most successful song by 10 Years. In 2006 the group managed to release an EP that was titled Acoustic EP that included four tracks namely "Fault Line", "Through the Iris", "Wasteland", and "Prey". All these songs were recorded on acoustic guitar and were performed live. After a gap of three years in 2008 Division was released this improved the band’s chart position on Billboard and landed at #12. Feeding the Wolves was the fifth studio album that managed to chart at #3 on US Alternative and #17 on Billboard.
Just recently in 2012 the sixth studio album came out that was titled Minus the Machine. This was the first one that was not released by Universal instead this time it was Palehorse records. It was at #4, #6 and #26 respectively on Independent Albums, US Alternative and US Billboard 200 charts. Some of the singles that have managed to reach the charts are "Through the Iris", "Waking Up", "So Long Good Bye", "Action & Motives", "Shoot it Out" and "Now is the Time".
