There are very few places in the world that indulge you into their rich arts and culture as much as New Orleans does. Once you are there, you would never want to leave!
Often called as the Most Unique City in America, the New Orleans is the largest city in the state of Louisiana. According to the latest statistics, the New Orleans Metropolitan Area is the 46th largest in the United States with a population of 1,235,650. The name New Orleans is an inspiration from Philippe d’ Orleans, Duke of Orleans, Regent of France. The city is known for its multilingual and rich cultural heritage, and the widespread French creole architecture. The New Orleans cuisine is well known for its taste and aroma, and it holds a special place in the hearts of people who appreciate it. It is the birth place of Jazz, a well known form of music, and has a great history in terms of development and promotion of music as a form of art. The city is also known for its people and their liveliness, and for the festivals and celebrations they host every year. Most notable is the ‘Mardi Gras’, where the liveliness and excitement is at its best for both residents as well as the tourists.
Being an old city founded in 1718 by the French Mississippi company, New Orleans has seen many ups and downs in its journey through times. The city suffered catastrophically in times of hurricane Katrina in Rita in 2005, and there was a huge financial as well as personal loss. While recovering from these losses, the city administration as well as residents have shown great spirit and have been successful in bringing the life back to the roads of New Orleans along with its traditional Mardi Gras, Jazz and heritage festival, as well as laying the foundation of a new Running of the Bulls New Orleans festival in recent years.
Tourism forms a very important aspect of the city’s lifestyle, having great tourist attractions like Bourbon Street, French Quarter, St. Charles Avenue and Magazine Street, making the city one of the top ten most visited cities of the world. The New Orleans Mint, Saint Louis Cemetery, and the National World War II Museum attract visitors from across the country to the city every year. The City Park has one of the largest stands of oak trees in the world.
Among other festivals and celebrations, Mardi Gras assumes its special place being the most popular and most awaited event of the year. The carnival officially begins on the Twelfth Night, which is on Feast of the Epiphany. The most celebrated day of the carnival is the last day, i.e. Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras.
Home of Jazz music, the Mardi Gras festival, and the city renowned for French architecture along with all its historical and cultural beauties, the city is a heaven for tourists. New Orleans tickets surely enable you to experience the blend of tradition and modernization.
