Founded in August of 1879, the city of Mulvane can be found at the junction of the 5 Santa Fe railway lines. The city is named after the Joab R. Mulvane, who considered as the most successful Kansan of his time. The city has a lot of rich history. It is also home to some very notable people such as Dennis Wayne Franchione, the American football coach who is currently the head football coach of Texas State University. He is also known as Coach Fran. Another prominent name associated with Mulvane is Laura Mae Cobb, the famous member of the United States Navy Nurse Corps who received several decorations for her actions in the defense of Manila and her 37 months capture as a prisoner of war in Japan during the second World War.
The city also has replica of the famous Golden Gate Bridge over Cowskin Creek. The replica is a typical Midwestern novelty attraction that has become an interesting sight for tourists. It was built by a retired postman named Larry Richardson. The bridge is a scale model that is one hundred and fifty feet long and cost just five thousand dollars in materials.

This event is one of the longest running events in the history of Kansas State, a Mulvane city tradition that has been taking place for 140 years. The event first began in 1873, 10 years before the town of Mulvane was officially incorporated. The event takes place in the 3rd weekend of August, every year. It features a lot of fun events such as road race, arts & crafts, carnival, parade, talent show, Little Miss Pioneer pageant, turtle races, rodeo, medallion hunt, pet shows, dance competitions for teenagers, golf tournaments as well as park programs and much more.
