The town is primarily known for being home to the Comcast Center, a concert venue which is one of the most renowned in the state of Massachusetts.
The Comcast Center is an outdoor amphitheater in Mansfield. The venue is located thirty miles south of Boston, MA, with former names Tweet Center and Great Woods. The seating capacity at the amphitheater is close to twenty thousand. Seven thousand of the seats are covered and in the pavilion, while seven thousand are in the open, with general admissions in the lawn. Comcast Center’s name remained "Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts" until the year 1999, when "Tweeter" purchased its naming rights and named it "Tweeter Center". However, owing to some recent financial troubles and a probable bankruptcy, the company opted out of the naming agreement with the amphitheater.
In 2008, Comcast officially bought the naming rights, renaming it the Comcast Center. The WBCN River Rave in 2008 was the last event at the Tweet Center. As it is an outdoor venue, it is normally open from May through to the month of September. The Center was host to the 23rd yearly Farm Aid concert in support of the agrarian workers in America. Other prominent events held at the venue include concerts by The Fray, James Taylor, The Allman Brothers Band, Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold, Rush, Pearl Jam and Oasis, amongst others. Moreover, in 2010, The Center was named the decade’s top grossing amphitheater by the Billboard magazine.
This season, the venue is yet again bringing for you a series of concerts by celebrated artists and bands.
