Hamilton is a musical written by playwright and actor Lin Manual Muranda. The play beautifully portrays the story of the young immigrant, Alexander Hamilton, who migrated to America and became one of the most important figures in America history. The team behind Hamilton is also known for its Tony Award winning play, “In the Heights”. Hamilton’s most fascinating aspect is that the story of Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers is told in a unique hip hop styled theme. Hamilton portrays Alexander Hamilton’s road to glory. The story consists of many stages of his life such as his childhood in the Caribbean and his journey to New York to study in King’s College. The musical then incorporates the twists and turns of Hamilton’s life; how he became a war hero for his role in the American Revolutionary War in 1775, how he became George Washington’s most trusted ally and how he was caught up in the first sex scandal of the US despite being a loving and faithful husband to his wife.

His out of the box thinking made him the Treasury Head of America and from that position of influence, he made the untrusting world put their faith in his devised economic plan for America. He made a great contribution towards developing a great nation which was as ambitious as Hamilton himself.

Lin Manual Miranda was inspired to write this play after reading Hamilton’s biography written by Ron Chernow. He decided to not only just write a play but to star as Hamilton himself. The musical will also feature other founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson, Eliza Hamilton and of course, George Washington. Apart from these, the play also shows Hamilton’s friend and rival Aaron Burr, who gravely wounded Hamilton in a gun duel in New Jersey in 1804.

Miranda previewed an earlier version of Hamilton in 2012, The Hamilton Mixtape, at Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. Miranda also played a portion of this musical for President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama in the year 2009 at the White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and the Spoken Words. It was due to the success of these short versions that Miranda made an announcement in March 2014 that Hamilton will in fact come to Broadway. Hamilton had success at Off Broadway venues and after a period of seven months it finally made its Broadway debut in January 2015.

The cast of the play is also a notable aspect of its success. The lead role is being played by the playwright Lin Manual Miranda, who won a Tony award, an Emmy and a Grammy for his performance in the musical “In The Heights.” Phillipa Soo is playing the role of Eliza Hamilton, Anthony Ramos has been cast for the roles of both John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton, Daveed Diggs stars as Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and Renee Elisa Goldsberry plays the role of Angelica Schuyler.

The director of the musical is the Tony award nominee Thomas Kail. Three famous producers, Jeffery Seller, Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman are associated with the project as well. The man responsible for the choreography of the musical is Andy Blankenbuehler. The music of the show is also written by the writer Lin Manual Miranda.

So if you want to watch American history from a brand new perspective, then here is your chance to do so. Hamilton is hitting Broadway and you can catch it live.
