Fayetteville is the County Seat of the county of Washington that was incorporated back in the year 1836. Based on a total land area of fifty five square miles, the city also comprises of almost two square miles of water. Fayetteville was initially named Washington after George Washington himself till the year 1829, after which its name was changed. The new name was kept after General Lafayette, a French army general who helped in gaining freedom during the American Revolutionary War.
