Columbia is a small community located in Maryland. This community constitutes of a total of ten villages that are situated in the Howard County. The founder of Columbia is James W. Rouse who is a popular developer and creator. He decided that establishment of this new community will lead to the enhancement of human values and removal of discrimination that is present between classes, religion and races. Hence, it was in the year 1967, that Columbia MD came into existence and is now inhabited by almost a hundred thousand citizens. Covering a land area of approximately thirty two square miles, villages that make up this city include Wilde Lake, Oakland Mills, Harper’s Choice and Owen Brown. Others include Long Reach, Hickory Ridge, Dorsey’s Search, Kings Contrivance, River Hill and Town Center. The city of Columbia has been ranked amongst the top 100 "Best Places to Live" in America by Money Magazine in the year 2006, ranking it at fourth place. The city was again a part of the 2010’s list when it was at the second spot.
Columbia has several bars and venues that host regular concerts and performances by underground bands. Some of these venues include the Green Turtle, Sonoma, Clyde’s and Nottingham’s Tavern. One of the most popular places to visit in Columbia is the Merriweather Post Pavilion which is an outdoor facility located in the area of Symphony Woods. Created on a total land area of forty acres, this pavilion was opened for the public in the year 1967 after which it has held some of the most magnificent shows. Providing space for almost twenty thousand spectators, this facility was designed by Frank Gehry, an award winning architect. The open air auditorium has been named after Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress of the American Post Foods. The Merriweather Post Pavilion is home to the National Symphony Orchestra, an orchestral organization that holds its regular season performances here. This facility has been rated the second best open amphitheatre throughout America by the Billboard Magazine.
