Music Television or MTV made its debut over thirty five years ago, and within days managed to completely revolutionize the music industry. The concept of releasing new songs accompanied by videos was an old one, but it had never been presented like this before. Nobody had ever successfully tried to create a television network with the express purpose of playing music videos all day long. The focus used to be on live performances and television show appearances before this time. This new way of releasing songs became instantly popular, and made stars out of all the early video artists.
Hit Me with Your Best Shot
One of the first few stars to emerge from this new video craze was the remarkable singer Pat Benatar, and talented guitarist Neil Giraldo. Benatar became the first female artist to be featured on MTV, while Giraldo became the first lead guitarist, both appearing in a video for the song “You Better Run.” The video of the track is considered a pivotal moment in the history of the music industry and helped break many barriers, especially for female artists around the world. Both artists have since gone on to achieve some amazing things and even branched out in to different professions as well.
These days, the husband and wife duo are busy travelling from one city to the next as they continue with their acoustic concert tour. If you don’t want to miss out either, then get your Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo tickets and their show, live.
We Live for Love
Patricia Mae Andrzejewski was born in 1953 to working class parents and was drawn to the world of entertainment from an early age. She took part in several plays while at school, and started to get vocal lessons from an early age. As she grew older, her talent became more and more apparent and most people expected her to try out for the prestigious Juilliard School, but she had a change of heart soon after, instead marrying her high school sweetheart Dennis Benatar at the age of just nineteen.
After a few years of married life however Pat started to become bored and decided to pursue a career in music once again. She got a job as a singer at a local club, where she was spotted and offered her first recording contract. Due to the rising problems she faced, she also divorced Benatar soon after.
While writing material for her new album, studio executives got the idea of providing her with a partner that could assist her with songwriting, as well as add a more mature and dark sound to her music. In Neil Giraldo they had the perfect person. He had been writing songs for many years and had experience of working with some of the biggest names in the music industry. It did not take long for both artists to hit it off, not only in the recording studio but in their personal lives as well, going onto get married in 1982.
Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades
All in all, Benatar has gone on to make eleven studio albums, all of which have involved Giraldo as a songwriter and a composer. Of these, six have made it into the top twenty of the Billboard charts, with her 1981 album, titled “Precious Time” making it all the way to number one. Six of these records have also managed to record platinum level sales in the US, with two recording gold level sales.
