The field of economics combines the principles of business and finance with mathematics in order to develop effective techniques for increasing a company’s profits. It also includes a special focus on the production and delivery of goods and services to consumers. Economics professionals evaluate various factors such as productivity, marketing and other factors in order to prepare economic forecasts and predict future financial trends. The principles of economics are applied across all industries including healthcare, manufacturing, education, agriculture, law, energy and transportation.

What is the Master of Economics?
The Master in Economics degree is an advanced two year long graduate degree, which is offered to people who already hold a bachelor’s degree in economics or a related field. The degree is designed to give students a deep working knowledge of economics and allow them to develop abilities for research and analysis. The degree starts off with courses in the areas of advanced mathematics, statistics, statistical analysis and micro- and macroeconomics. Other courses include econometrics, international economics, labor economics and research methods in economics. This is followed by a dissertation based research, upon the completion of which students are awarded the degree.
Why should I consider a career in economics?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks economists as some of the highest paid professionals in the country and estimates employment opportunities will increase by 6% in this field. The leading employers will be financial institutions, business corporations, government agencies and various international organizations. Average wages for master in economics degree holders widely vary, but are generally over $150,000 per year on average.
