The control panel comes into play at this point. This is the second step. The control panel processes information from various sensors and detectors installed all over the house and responds accordingly. Gathering data from the sensors, the control panel is designed to inform by sounding the alarm.

The third step is scaring away the intruders. When the alarm panel establishes an intrusion or emergency, it sends signals to physical alarms outputs such as sirens or strobe lights. Both act as deterrents for intruders. These also come in very handy when there is a life threatening situation such as a fire or a gas leak. They are designed to alert you of the potentially dangerous situation, in time for evacuation.

How do Alarm Systems Work

The basic burglar alarm is actually an electrical circuit which is placed in the entrance of a building. The circuit contains electricity and enables it to flow between two points of opposite charge.
When you open the door, a part of the circuit is opened. Its pathway is disrupted and current stops flowing.
When the door is shut, the current can easily flow through the circuit. When someone opens the door, circuit is opened, electrical current stops flowing, and this triggers the alarm.
